The Japanese Pacific States are a puppet state of the Japanese Empire, which has its territory in the western part of the USA it is occupied by the Japanese Empire at the end of the Second World War in 1947, two years after the capitulation on the USA, which capitulated after the nuclear destruction of Washington D.C. in 1945 by the Heisenberg Device (the name of the Atom Bomb in this reality) invented by the Greater German Nazi Reich, however both the Japanese Empire and the Nazi Reich had to fight a hard and tenacious resistance for almost two years before finally quelling the American Resistance and declaring victory, which however, different from the Greater Nazi Reich and Nazi America, the Japanese Pacific States and the Japanese Empire don't celebrate Victory Day. After the war, the Japanese Empire and the Nazi Reich decide to divide the former United States into three areas: one area with the direct influence of the Japanese Empire, which became the official state of Japanese Pacific States, one area with the direct influence of the German Reich, which became the Nazi America and one area between the two, which became a buffer-state, called the Neutral Zone (or colloquially the "Rocky Mountains States").

Overview

Flag

The official flag of the Japanese Pacific States is closely based on the Naval Ensign of Rising Sun Flag, with a red sun-disc off-set on a white field, closer to the landyard side, instead on the center like the Army Ensign of the Rising Sun Flag, however the Japanese Pacific States Flag has only 12 blue sun rays (instead of the original 16 red sun rays), which starts only after leaving a small white border between the red sun and blue sun rays, the blue sun rays starts from the white border in group of three, the flag also contain 8 red stars, one above the red sun, one below the red sun, two at the left of the red sun (forming a horizontal line from the white border) and four at the right of the red sun (forming a horizontal line from the white border). While the colours of the flag are probably based on the original colours of the United States National Flag, it's unknown the reason and meaning of the 8 red stars, though however since Alaska and the Hawaii are also part of the Japanese Pacific States, the Japanese Pacific States would be composed of 8 former states and territories of the USA (California, Arizona, part of Utah, Nevada, Oregon, large part of Washington, Hawaii and Alaska) which is why there are eight stars on the flag. It was confirmed that the flag was created by Admiral Yamamoto, who resided in the country until his death.

In the second sason of the series, is later revealed that the Hawaii are not part of the Japanese Pacific States, which are instead incorporated directly as Japanese Empire overseas territory, the "eight" state of the Japanese Pacific States is revealed to be the province of British Columbia, former province of Canada, which has been annexed after the war in the Japanese Pacific States.

Territory

As said before, the Japanese Pacific States's territory is composed of the Western part of the USA, from Arizona to the Western two-thirds of Washington, from California(including Baja California) to the Western half of Utah, also including a small part of Western Idaho and New Mexico, as well as British Columbia, Yukon, and Alaska. The country's border is with the Neutral Zone(with its territory that are extended to Canada as well) to the East and Mexico to the South. The country also covers Ecuador, Peru, and Chile in South America.

Politics

The Japanese Pacific States' official capital is San Francisco, but the country, though in a more indirect way compared to Nazi America, is still ruled by the Japanese Empire, possibly through membership of the Greater Co-Prosperity Sphere. Before 1947, the Japanese Pacific States' population consisted mostly of Euro-Americans/Japanese immigrants. Following Japan's invasion, several emigration policies were implemented encouraging ethnic Japanese peoples to migrate over to the new puppet state. While Euro-Americans are still present in the country and the Japanese tolerate the presence of Blacks and Jews, their racial policies are (on paper) in line with the Greater Nazi Reich's. The harshest extent of racism in the Pacific States are ethnic Japanese citizens access to higher standards of living, a majority of the country's police and military being composed of Japanese peoples, and Japanese citizens having larger economic/political weight in the country. The Japanese Pacific States also allows the Japanese Empire's Kempeitai to have free reign. While not as harsh as the Nazi's SS, the Kempeitai are still an extremely efficient and ruthless force, employing psychological and physical torture as means of interrogation. The official languages of the Japanese Pacific States are both English and Japanese, however it seems that the study of Japanese is not mandatory.

Economy

The economy of the Japanese Pacific States, though prosperous, is closely tied to that of the Japanese Empire. Due to being the Greater Co-Prosperity Sphere, the national currency is the Japanese Yen.
