The Imperial Japanese Army is the official ground-based armed force of the Japanese Empire.
History[]
Formed in 1868, the Imperial Japanese Army took major inspiration from European militaries and modernisation. In 1873, conscription was enacted across Japan, tripling the army's numbers. The army invaded Taiwan in 1874 and China in 1894. They were forced to withdrawal from China after European nations threatened intervention. The imperial army earned its prestige back when it defeated Russia in the 1904 Russo-Japanese War, in which they took Port Arthur and full control of Korea.
