I have much to learn from you, Obergruppenführer.
~ Erich Raeder

Erich Raeder was an SS Sturmbannführer, working with Obergruppenführer John Smith. He is shown to be extremely loyal to Smith and wants nothing more than to be just like him. Raeder was killed in Fall of 1962 by Joe Blake on the orders of Reichsführer Heinrich Himmler. Himmler had determined that Raeder was a liability to the career of then-Oberstgruppenführer John Smith, who was being groomed to replace George Lincoln Rockwell as Reichsmarschall of Nazi America.

Season One

During a ride with the Obergruppenführer, John Smith and Erich Raeder get ambushed. Raeder is severely injured in the shooting incident, and offers his gun to Smith when the latter runs out of bullets, an act which saves John Smith's life. Smith can prevent him from suicide and save his life.

John Smith gives him a letter before he goes hunting with Oberstgruppenführer Reinhard Heydrich , because he thinks he could get murdered there. The letter is addressed to the Führer Adolf Hitler.

Erich is concealed in the woods outside the hunting cabin where Heydrich reveals his plan to Smith.  Shortly after realizing his plot has been foiled, Heydrich's adjutant is fatally shot by Raeder, giving Smith the opportunity to arrest him.

Season Two

John Smith gives Erich Raeder the order to collect secret data about the current Reichskanzler Martin Heusmann and Gruppenführer Keller. This is strictly forbidden. Raeder does this anyway and so proves his total loyalty to Smith. He also obeys without question Smith's order to delete Smith's meeting with Chief Inspector Takeshi Kido from the official log.

Season Three

Raeder is killed by Joe Blake.

Notes & Trivia

  • A real Erich Raeder (24 April 1876 – 6 November 1960) was a naval leader in Nazi Germany who played a major role in the naval history of World War II. Raeder attained the highest possible naval rank—that of Grand Admiral (Großadmiral)—in 1939, becoming the first person to hold that rank since Alfred von Tirpitz. Raeder led the Kriegsmarine for the first half of the war; he resigned in 1943 after a series of failed operations, especially the Battle of the Barents Sea. Raeder was replaced by Karl Dönitz. After the war he was sentenced to life in prison at the Nuremberg Trials, but was released early due to failing health.
