Season One

In his position, he tried to assassinate John Smith, by order of Heydrich, using the resistance as a "proxy", leaking the information regarding John Smith "safe route" from his home to the SS headquarters of New York. However the attempt ultimately failed. Smith was able to capture one member of the Resistance, who after torturous interrogation, reveal Connolly's involvement.

Smith, unsure of the veracity of this confession, tested Connolly with an empty gun, but Connoly, even, apparently, in threat of his life, refuse to admit his involvement. He reaffirmed his loyalty to the Reich, which convinced Smith of Connolly's "presumed" innocence. Connolly then used the opportunity to beat the Resistance member, in order to pass him a silver spoon to commit suicide.

Later, when Smith realized Heydrich's involvement in his attempt, he realized also Connolly's guilt in his life attempt, who didn't confess previously for fear of Heydrich. After confronting Connolly for the last time on the roof of the SS headquarters, he killed him. He threw him off the roof, making look as a suicide, in order to not alert Heydrich of his findings.
